By code, spray foam has to be covered by an approved thermal barrier. Drywall, plywood, OSB — or a CCMC-approved spray.

In Canada there is no such thing as fireproof foam. The foam is the insulation. The barrier is a second product.

An intumescent coating. Working with the Canadian Construction Materials Centre and the National Research Council, DC315 has a CCMC evaluation report validating it as an equal to gypsum board for fire protection of SPF in Canada.

A spray-applied CCMC-approved cementitious thermal barrier formulated for application over spray foam insulation — used when the spec calls for it instead of board.
